Dr Harsh Vardhan to chair WHO Executive Committee
The Minister of Health and Family Welfare of India, Dr. Harsh Vardhan, will chair the Executive Committee of the World Health Organization (WHO) at the 147th session of the organization's council. This is reported by The Indian Express on May 22. Dr. Vardhan is also said to succeed Dr. Hiroki Nakatani of Japan. Recall, the WHO Executive Committee is the governing body of the organization, which manages it between sessions of the World Health Assembly. It consists of 34 members, the status and provisions of the WHO Executive Committee are enshrined in Chapter 6 of the WHO Charter.
