Tesla compared accident rate when using and turning off autopilot

Tesla cars with the Autopilot driver support system turned on get into traffic accidents ten times less often than the US average. This was reported in the quarterly report of Tesla, published on the company's website. Tesla specialists studied accidents on US roads in the second quarter of 2020. They found that on average every American car gets into a traffic accident, having traveled 479 thousand miles (771 thousand km). However, with the Tesla Autopilot system enabled, this figure amounted to 4.53 million miles (7.3 million km). Note that such indicators can be explained by many factors. As a rule, drivers use Autopilot on relatively safe routes. For example, this system is often used for long trips on highways, where the average accident rate is much lower than on busy city roads. As previously reported by the news agency, in July, Tesla founder Elon Musk said that the company's specialists would completely replace the software part of the Autopilot driver support system.
