Bolivian court confirms Morales ban on participating in elections

In Bolivia, the court of the La Paz department could not overturn the decision of the country's highest electoral court (VIS), which refused in February to register ex-president Evo Morales as a candidate for Senate elections. This was reported on September 7 by Unitel. During the proceedings at the request of the lawyers of Morales, who asked to find the decision of VIS violating the constitution, the court of the La Paz department could not make an independent decision due to the opposing opinions of the two judges. The final decision was made by the invited judge. Recall that the application of former Bolivian President Evo Morales for registration as a candidate for senator in February was rejected by the country's highest electoral court, chaired by Salvador Romero. The formal reason for the refusal was the failure to comply with the requirement of permanent residence of candidate Morales in Bolivia. According to the news agency, the interim government of Bolivia protested to the Argentine authorities after a meeting between Argentine Deputy Minister of Public Works Edgardo Depertri and former Bolivian President Evo Morales.
